- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
For the Topping:

- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
To Serve:

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized oven-safe dish.
- Prepare the filling. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
- Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Time to make the topping. In a medium bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Add the cold butter cubes and, using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped nuts, if using.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the juices to settle.
