Description

Celebrate Independence Day with a tray of colorful Rice Krispie treats. They’re perfect for prepping ahead and sharing with a crowd. One batch goes a long way at parties!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 4 cups mini marshmallows (about 10 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup red meltable candies
  • 1/2 cup white meltable candies
  • 1/2 cup blue meltable candies
  • Sprinkles (as desired; any type of your choosing)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat. Then, add the mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  2. Remove the pot from the heat and immediately stir in the Rice Krispies cereal. Mix until the cereal is fully coated.
  3. Transfer the mixture into a parchment-lined or lightly greased pan. Flatten it evenly across the pan.
  4. Place the pan in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least one hour.
  5. Once set, lift the entire treat out of the pan using the parchment paper. Place it on a cutting board and slice into squares or rectangles.
  6. Time to melt the candies! In separate bowls, melt the red, white, and blue candy melts according to the package instructions. Use deep bowls to make dipping easier.
  7. Pipe the melted candy over each Rice Krispie square using a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the tip snipped off.
  8. Add your sprinkles while the candy coating is still wet. Let the treats set at room temperature, or refrigerate them to speed things up.
